Education Committee Policy Proposal

As policymakers across Missouri and the nation considered expanding school voucher programs and tax credit scholarships, important questions were raised about the role of public funding in private education. Should taxpayer dollars be used to subsidize private and religious schools? What were the implications for public school students and teachers? How did these decisions affect equity and access in our education system?

At this Summer Sounding Board, the Education Committee guided attendees through a thoughtful, nonpartisan discussion on the shifting landscape of education funding. We examined current legislation, explored long-term impacts on public schools, and discussed how communities could advocate for transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.

It was a great opportunity to connect, learn, and engage with other League members and concerned citizens in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Food and beverages were available for purchase, and attendees were encouraged to bring friends or neighbors interested in public education and civic dialogue.
