League provides multitude of services to voters in 2020
It’s time to say “thank you” to all League members who have given time and risked exposure to COVID-19 to make sure voter needs were met during the 2020 election season.
Beginning in January and ending Oct. 6, the League sponsored or took part in 65 voter registration events, paving the way to Election Day for first time voters and those who needed registration changes.
In a span of two weeks in mid-October, 12 notary drive-thru events provided voters an opportunity to have mail-in ballots notarized at no charge. League volunteers and three non-League voter advocates worked tirelessly on the notary process.
Voter advocacy and protection continued through Election Day. League members assisted the Greene County Clerk’s office with preparations for counting mail-in ballots. League members served as election judges and participated in election protection efforts through the Missouri Voter Protection Coalition.
Voters turned to the League with a variety of questions: differences between the ballot types new for 2020, background on ballot issues, information on candidates, voter eligibility, how to vote absentee in person and requests for rides to the polls.
This has been an election season for the memory books and the League of Southwest Missouri has been there assisting voters through it all.
