Voting April 6? What you need to know

Information from the League’s Voter Service experts

The 2021 election season is upon us. Not only is COVID still here but cold weather limits our ability to conduct “fresh air” voter registrations. However, the League remains ready to provide whatever services we can to voters and eligible citizens who want to vote.

April 6 – Municipal Elections — Polls open Election Day 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. In Springfield, voters will decide on Springfield Mayor and City Council as well as Springfield School Board.  If you live outside Greene County, check with your county clerk. They’re happy to provide a sample ballot and answer your questions. Here’s contact information.

Voter Registration Deadline – March 10. Tell your neighbors and friends about this important deadline.

If you move from one county to a new county: You need to register again. Contact your County Clerk.

If you move but stay in the same county: You need to change your voter registration address. You can change your address at your new polling (voting) location on Election Day, but it will save time if you do it before the election.

If you plan to vote Absentee-By-Mail: You will need to request an absentee ballot. This request must be received by your County Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. March 24. The voted, notarized (if necessary) and mailed absentee ballot must be received in your County Clerk’s office no later than 7 p.m. on April 6.

Absentee ballots also may be returned in person to your County Clerk’s office. In Greene County, the Clerk’s office is in the Historic Courthouse, first floor rotunda, 940 N. Boonville, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.

In-Person Absentee Voting in Greene County is available at the Greene County Records Center, 1126 N. Boonville, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, Feb. 23 to April 5 and Saturday, April 3, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.. By statute, absentee voting on April 5 closes at 5 p.m.
