Missouri’s Sunshine Law, explained

Learn how the Sunshine Law ensures government transparency. The Kansas City League of Women Voters hosts three impressive panelists for a virtual program during the nationwide Sunshine Week, March 13-18, 2023.

Panelists are:

    • Dave Helling, journalist emeritus, moderator
    • Steve Vockrodt, investigative editor, NPR Midwest Newsroom
    • Max Kautsch, Kautsch Law, LLC; practice focused on First Amendment rights and open government law
    • Available after March 13 on demand on the Kansas City League website and on YouTube @LWVKC
    • Free, open to the public

Because of the Sunshine Law, citizens are allowed in public meetings. They can request government records. The law is designed to limit corruption and increase public trust by requiring transparency. Sunshine Week is celebrated nationally to promote open government at all levels. In Missouri, it’s been the law for 50 years.

Our hosts in the Kansas City League remind us: “Government transparency improves our lives. Open government is good government.” Learn how the “Show Me State” does Sunshine.

The program originally aired March 13 via Zoom.
